Hit-and-Run Horror in Liverpool City Centre Leaves Man Critical

Early this morning, Liverpool city centre was rocked by a serious crash involving a white Audi TT. The drama unfolded shortly after 1:10am BST when police spotted the car and moments later it slammed into a private hire taxi on The Strand near Brunswick Street.

Man in 40s Seriously Injured After Collision

The smash didn’t stop there. The impact caused a pedestrian, a man in his 40s, to get caught up in the chaos. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition. The taxi driver, a man in his 50s, suffered neck injuries and also needed medical treatment.

Driver Flees on Foot – Passenger Detained

The Audi driver jumped from the scene and vanished on foot, but a passenger was held by police at the spot. Meanwhile, a 53-year-old woman from Southport was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and is now in custody.

Road Closures and Police Appeal

The Strand is shut both ways between James Street and Chapel Street, causing big disruptions across the city centre. Motorists are urged to find alternative routes.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, head of the serious collision investigation, said: “An investigation has been launched following this collision, which has left a 44-year-old man with serious injuries.”

He added: “We urge anyone with information, dashcam footage or CCTV showing the Audi TT before the crash, to come forward.”
