Seven Nabbed in Nottingham Phone Theft Crackdown
Seven suspects have been arrested in Nottingham city centre amid a crackdown on a recent spike in mobile phone thefts. Police executed a warrant at an address on Alfreton Road, 123, seizing a haul of phones now undergoing tests to confirm if they are stolen.
Chief Inspector Warns: ‘No Tolerance for Phone Thieves’
Chief Inspector Amy English, in charge of neighbourhood policing, made a statement after the arrests:
“We have seven suspects in custody and I hope this sends a message to mobile phone thieves that we will not tolerate their crimes.”
She added the operation also resulted in a significant drug seizure, saying:
“The supply of drugs devastates communities, bringing violence, antisocial behaviour, and exploitation. That is why we are working extremely hard to stop criminal activity and keep the public safe.”
Organised Crime Behind Phone Thefts
CI English explained that the thefts are not petty crimes. Many smartphones are worth hundreds of pounds, and criminals rack up expensive bills or purchases on stolen devices.
She warned:
“Organised crime groups use profits from phone thefts to fund more serious offences at the expense of local communities. We will not allow these criminals to roam our streets causing misery.”
Police Urge Public to Speak Up
Nottinghamshire Police urge anyone with information related to mobile phone theft or the sale of stolen goods to come forward. Contact them via 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
