Met Unveils Bold Turnaround Plan to Restore Trust and Tackle Crime

Met’s New Turnaround Plan Promises Tough Reform and Crime Crackdown

The Metropolitan Police has launched a game-changing Turnaround Plan to overhaul the force and rebuild Londoners’ trust. Introduced by Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley during a major keynote speech on January 10, the plan was published officially on January 20, kicking off a 12-week public consultation to shape policing’s future.

Cracking Down on Corruption and Crime

Sir Mark Rowley pulled no punches addressing the disgraceful David Carrick scandal, pledging immediate action. “Communities demand reform – not just in standards and culture, but in cutting crime,” he said.

“My promise is clear: my senior team and thousands of honest officers will reform the Met to restore Londoners’ faith in the police service. The Turnaround Plan shows how.”

The plan targets nine key priorities including a new Anti-Corruption and Abuse Command with stronger powers and resources. It’s a data-driven bid to expose misconduct and rebuild public confidence.

Neighbourhood Policing and Victim Support Boost

One highlight is London’s biggest surge in neighbourhood policing EVER, with 1,600 additional PCSOs alongside more local officers.

  • Every reported home burglary will get a police response.
  • Victims will get tailored contact updates through new ‘victim contact contracting’.
  • There’ll be tougher strategies against violence on women and girls, using tech and data to crack down on offenders.

Sadiq Khan: “We Back This Plan 100%”

Mayor Sadiq Khan threw his weight behind the overhaul. “Police officers feel as disgusted as the public about recent failures. They’re desperate to raise standards and rebuild bonds with communities,” he said.

Khan announced funding for 500 new PCSOs to fight violent crime and pledged more investments coming soon to support victims, cut crime further, and root out corrupt officers.

The Met wants YOUR say. They’re calling on communities, partners, and staff to give feedback during the next 12 weeks before the updated plan launches in April.

With reform at a crucial tipping point, London’s police promise tough measures to smash corruption, slash crime, and restore the trust so vital for safe streets.
