Port of Dover Crackdown Nets Six Arrests and Four Stolen Vehicles
Six suspects have been snapped up and four stolen vehicles recovered during a tough two-day police swoop at the busy Port of Dover. The blitz aimed to stop criminals escaping the UK with pilfered goods.
Major Haul Worth Over £100,000 in Stolen Loot
Over March 27 and 28, officers from the Rural Task Force, Port of Dover security, and the National Construction and Agricultural Theft Team (NCATT) stopped 236 vehicles. The haul included more than £100,000 worth of stolen items and £4,000 in cash linked to dodgy dealings.
- A mini digger reported nicked in a Derbyshire burglary earlier this month was found hidden behind boxes in a van. The driver, a 39-year-old Londoner, was arrested and later bailed.
- Three men, aged 24, 27, and 38, were arrested after officers stopped a black BMW with dodgy number plates. The car was stolen from Slough. A blue BMW estate linked to the crime was also seized, and two men inside were detained and bailed.
- A suspected stolen horse box with removed ID marks was also recovered. Police are working to return it to its rightful owner.
Police Warn Thieves: No Escape from Dover
“Operations like these allow us to take a closer look at those sailing from Dover. Those criminals who think they can leave the country with their stolen goods have nowhere to hide, and we will continue in our fight to bring offenders to justice,” said Sergeant Ross Haybourne of the Rural Task Force.
Public Urged to Help Snuff Out Crime
The community, especially in rural and farming sectors, has welcomed the crackdown as thefts have soared. Police urge anyone with tips on stolen goods or suspicious activity at the port to speak up. You can report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
This operation is just one part of the ongoing effort to shut down cross-border crime and keep Dover’s port secure.
