Blazing Inferno Hits Derelict Isle of Wight Hotel
Flames tore through the roof of the abandoned Parkbury Hotel in Sandown this evening, sparking a massive emergency response.
Smoke billowed thick from the former hotel on The Broadway, drawing in four fire engines from Sandown, Ryde, and Newport. Senior officers and the Newport Aerial Ladder Platform quickly arrived to battle the blaze.
Major Fire Response Brings Island to Halt
- Police shut down Broadway in both directions to keep the public safe.
- Additional fire crews called in from East Cowes and Cowes.
- The Incident Command Unit from Newport on-site coordinating efforts.
- Two fire appliances from Southampton stand ready to protect other parts of the Isle of Wight.
The Aerial Ladder Platform was positioned on Winchester Park Road to gain the best vantage point as firefighters attacked the fire with main jets, hose reels, and breathing apparatus.
Emergency Crews Work Round the Clock
About 30 brave firefighters faced tough conditions to extinguish the blaze. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and an operational commander also responded to the scene to support emergency efforts.
No injuries have been reported so far as crews continue their relentless battle to control the fire at the derelict Parkbury Hotel.
