Massive Search Underway in Nicola Bulley Missing Person Case
Police continue a massive operation, scouring the River Wyre and surrounding areas all the way to the sea in the desperate hunt for Nicola Bulley. More than 40 detectives are on the case, combing through hundreds of hours of CCTV and dashcam footage. They’ve interviewed scores of witnesses, analyzed digital clues, and sifted through around 1,500 tips from the public.
High-Risk Alert After Nicola Vanishes
Nicola was reported missing at 11am on Friday, January 27. Police classified her as a high-risk missing person immediately, due to reported vulnerabilities. Officers stress the focus remains firmly on bringing Nicola home safely and supporting her distressed family with daily updates.
“Our sole focus has been to find Nicola, bring her home for her family and give them the answers they desperately need,” confirmed Detective Superintendent Rebecca Smith during a press conference at Hutton HQ.
Revealing Nicola’s Struggles
Police revealed Nicola had past issues with alcohol, worsened by menopause struggles that resurfaced recently, creating family challenges. On January 10, a joint police and health professional response visited her home following welfare concerns. No arrests have been made but the incident remains under investigation.
“We usually don’t disclose this kind of personal information, but felt it important to clarify Nicola’s vulnerabilities to stop damaging speculation,” said Assistant Chief Constable Peter Lawson.
The Hunt: Key Details and Leads
- Officers have checked over 300 properties and spoken to nearly 300 people.
- Underwater teams, drones, horses, dogs, and helicopters have all searched land and river areas.
- Nicola’s movements were traced precisely between 9:10am and 9:33am on the day she disappeared.
- A dog walker found her dog, Willow, loose near the river at 9:33am.
- Nicola’s phone was discovered face-up on a bench near the river at around 9:20am; her dog’s harness was found halfway between the bench and the river.
Despite media buzz about a red van seen nearby, police stress it appears to be an ordinary vehicle amongst hundreds that morning.
“We are keeping an open mind, but CCTV and evidence so far show Nicola never left the field. The most likely outcome is she fell into the river,” said Ms Smith.
