Tragic Crash Claims Young Police Officer’s Life in Aldershot

The family of Liam Horley, 21, have paid a heartfelt tribute after the tragic death of the young police officer in a single-car crash in Aldershot on Friday, August 6.

Deadly Crash on Claycart Road

Police were called just after 5.20pm following a collision involving a red Peugeot 308 near the Wellington statue on Claycart Road. Liam, from Farnborough, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Family Pays Emotional Tribute

“Liam was much loved by all those that met him. He was more than a son, brother, boyfriend, and grandson – he was a loving, funny, charismatic young man and such a joy to be around,” said his family.

“From an early age, Liam was driven and determined, destined to help people. He began in the Army Cadets as a lead cadet but had dreamt since age 10 of becoming a police officer.

“That dream came true on 6th January 2020 when he joined Surrey Police. We were incredibly proud. Liam threw himself into his role with dedication, commitment, and professionalism, proudly wearing his uniform every day.

“He was always ready to help, famously saving a family member’s life by performing CPR for twelve minutes before the ambulance arrived. He never sought credit, just did what was right.”

“We cherish many wonderful memories – from family holidays to football matches where he was in goal. His loss leaves a huge void and indescribable pain.”

Surrey Police Remember a Dedicated Colleague

“Liam had a quiet confidence and a positive outlook. He was always first to volunteer, never complained, and tackled every task head-on,” said his team.

“On the West Surrey Coaching Unit, Liam eagerly attended all kinds of incidents to learn more. He progressed quickly to independent patrol, providing exceptional care to victims and the community.”
