Man Arrested Over Shocking Attempted Abduction at Willow Grove Mall
Khalilh Evans, 44, from Philadelphia, is in custody after reportedly trying to snatch a teenage girl at Willow Grove Park Mall, Pennsylvania. Evans faces charges of false imprisonment of a minor following a tense incident on Wednesday evening.
Disturbing Encounter on the Escalator
The drama unfolded at around 7pm at the mall on Moreland Road, Montgomery County. The 14-year-old victim told police she was descending an escalator when a man calling himself “Alex” approached her. Significantly older, he tried to escort her, extending his arm.
When the girl revealed she was underage and tried to walk away, Evans allegedly grabbed her arm and forced her through the mall. Shocking footage shows him twisting her wrist, highlighting the sinister nature of the assault.
Girl Breaks Free, Suspects Flee in Minivan
The brave teen managed to break free, screaming for help. Witnesses quickly stepped in, stopping the man from following her any further. The suspects then made a swift exit, hopping into a dark grey Dodge or Chrysler minivan, believed to be a Dodge Journey.
Police Pursue Leads, More Victims Come Forward
Since sharing images of the suspects, cops received vital tips, including reports of “Alex” giving his phone number to another 14-year-old. Other young women have also come forward, claiming they were approached by the men at the mall.
Evans voluntarily turned himself in to U.S. Marshals on Thursday at his lawyer’s Media office. He was wearing a “security” uniform when arrested, though his official role remains unclear.
Police Chief Slams Philadelphia Release Policies
“This is particularly disturbing,” said Abington Township Police Chief Patrick Molloy. “Policies in Philadelphia allow dangerous felons back on the streets, putting innocent children at risk. We need a stronger system to protect the public.”
With Evans now in custody, the hunt continues for the second suspect. Local authorities urge anyone with further info to come forward without delay.
The mall owner reassured shoppers that safety is their top priority and praised the quick actions of bystanders and law enforcement working alongside police on the case.
