Sussex PCSO Sacked Over Shocking Misconduct With Teen and Drug Deal

Police Worker Busted for Inappropriate Messages and Drug Deal

A Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) in Sussex has been fired after a scandalous 2020 investigation exposed a string of gross misconduct. The officer engaged in inappropriate and sexual communications with a 16-year-old boy on Grindr and used nasty, discriminatory language while agreeing to sell an illegal drug to an adult man.

Investigation Uncovers Serious Breaches

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) led the probe and passed the case to the Crown Prosecution Service in October 2021. Though no charges were filed, the inquiry revealed damning breaches of professional behaviour.

IOPC Slams Officer’s Actions

Mel Palmer, IOPC Regional Director, said: “Part of this PCSO’s job was to build trust and confidence in the police amongst local people in Sussex. It is disgraceful that while in such a trusted role he sent sexually explicit material to a vulnerable teenager and bought unauthorised medication for another man.”

Details of the Disturbing Conduct

  • The PCSO met the adult man during community liaison work at a café.
  • He was aware the 16-year-old boy was vulnerable, having been previously reported missing.
  • The officer sent the teen numerous explicit messages and videos.
  • He also agreed to supply unauthorised drugs to the adult man.

Harsh Penalty Ends Career

Following interviews, phone forensics, and witness statements, a panel ruled the officer’s actions amounted to gross misconduct. The PCSO was dismissed, highlighting the force’s zero tolerance for such behaviour.

Community Trust Shaken

The scandal has rocked confidence in community policing, especially regarding vulnerable youngsters and minority groups. It’s a stark reminder of the high standards expected from those sworn to protect the public.
