Robbery and Assault Plunge in Sussex Hotspots
Sussex Police have revealed a dramatic drop in serious crimes across the county’s most dangerous areas. Recent figures show robbery incidents have fallen by a staggering 47%, while assaults have tumbled 42% compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019/20.
Knife Crime Slashed by Half
In November 2022, Sussex Police reported a 50% reduction in knife-related crimes within 15 key hotspots—tiny 150 square metre zones notorious for serious violence. Overall, ‘ADR 160’ recorded offences dropped by 42%, signalling a major crackdown on violent crime.
Police Credit Proactive Policing
“These latest figures show the proactive work we are doing as a force and with partners is making an impact,” said Chief Inspector Simon Yates.
“This isn’t a case of crime simply shifting elsewhere in Sussex; it’s being eradicated from our communities. We will keep analysing the data and pushing these numbers down.
“And I’ll say it again — Sussex is a safe place to live.”
Special Unit Targets Serious Offences
To tackle knife crime and other violent offences, Sussex Police set up Operation Safety. This dedicated team focuses solely on making the county safer for everyone.
