Teen Arrested for Felling Iconic Sycamore Gap Tree
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after one of Britain’s most famous trees was deliberately cut down, sparking outrage across the country. The cherished tree, located at Sycamore Gap next to Hadrian’s Wall, starred in the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves alongside Kevin Costner.
Community in Shock Over Vandalism
The teen is now in police custody as investigators probe the motive behind this shocking act. The local community and fans worldwide are devastated by the loss of this historic landmark.
“This is a world-renowned landmark, and the events of today have caused significant shock, sadness, and anger throughout the local community and beyond,” said Superintendent Kevin Waring of Northumbria Police.
Tree’s Legacy Lost But Not Forgotten
Far more than a movie prop, the Sycamore Gap tree was crowned English Tree of the Year in 2016 by the Woodland Trust, cementing its status as an iconic British natural treasure.
National Trust Reacts, Calls for Calm
The National Trust, which owns the land where the tree once stood, expressed deep sadness and urged the public to stay away from the site near Crag Lough. They emphasised the importance of allowing investigation and cleanup efforts to proceed uninterrupted.
Authorities vow to release more details as the inquiry continues.
