Teenager Busted with Machete After High-Speed Chase in Southeast London
A wild police chase ripped through Southeast London’s backstreets on Saturday afternoon, ending with a teenager’s arrest. Cops from the Met’s targeted crime team spotted the suspect around 4pm on 10 February 2024 and launched the pursuit.
Speedy Crash Fails to Stop Armed Youth
The chase hit a dramatic peak when the teen collided with a car. Luckily, he escaped serious injuries despite the crash. However, upon arrest, officers discovered he was carrying a large machete.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 3.40pm, a man was arrested in Lordship Lane, SE22, following a police pursuit. The suspect crashed a moped he was riding and was detained with a large knife. He was taken to hospital for a head injury, which is not life-threatening.”
Road Closed, Investigation Underway
Following the incident, Lordship Lane at East Dulwich Grove Road was shut down briefly. The Metropolitan Police have launched a full investigation but haven’t revealed what drove the teen’s dangerous behaviour or if drugs or alcohol were involved.
Police Urge Witnesses to Speak Out
Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the chase or has information on the suspect to come forward. The arrest puts a spotlight on worries about rising youth crime and weapon possession in London.
The Met promises it’s taking tough action to keep Londoners safe and tackle the threat that armed youngsters pose on the streets.
