Teen Stabbed in Herrington Country Park Sparks Attempted Murder Probe
Northumbria Police have launched an attempted murder investigation after a 15-year-old boy was seriously stabbed in Sunderland’s Herrington Country Park.
Emergency crews raced to Margaret Terrace in New Herrington at about 6:10pm on Friday (6 June) after reports of a stabbing. The victim was found with serious injuries caused by a bladed weapon, believed to have happened just before 6pm inside the park.
Three Teens Arrested Over Stabbing
Police swiftly arrested three teenagers following the attack:
- Two 16-year-old boys
- One 15-year-old girl
Initially held on suspicion of assault, all three have now been re-arrested for attempted murder and remain in custody for further questioning.
Victim Stable in Hospital
The stabbed boy was taken to hospital and is currently in a stable condition. Authorities say his injuries are not life-threatening, a relief to the local community.
Early police inquiries suggest the victim and suspects may know each other, but officers are still piecing together exactly what happened.
Police Call for Witnesses
Northumbria Police urge anyone in Herrington Country Park around 6pm on Friday to come forward. The park is a busy public space, and officers believe there may be vital witnesses.
