Fire Frenzy at Brunel House: Dozens of Appliances Swamp Portsmouth Tower Block
The Hard was ablaze with fire engines this evening as crews scrambled to Brunel House in Portsmouth. Firefighters were called out just after 5pm Sunday to a reported blaze at the empty 18-storey tower block.
Fire Crews Rush to High-Rise Alarm
Multiple fire crews from across Hampshire, including Southsea, Cosham, Havant, and Fareham, raced to the scene. An aerial ladder platform from Southsea was also deployed as a precaution.
Road Closures and Bus Disruptions
Police shut down both directions of the road at The Hard, causing chaos for drivers and halting buses heading to the station. The vacant Brunel House has triggered several fire alarms before, often false.
No Fire Found After Thorough Checks
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “Crews checked all 10 floors of the building and found no signs of fire. The site was handed back to onsite security at 5:45pm.”
The swift and thorough response ensured no damage, but The Hard remains on high alert whenever the empty tower block triggers alarms.
