Detective Pleads for Break in Silence Over Teen’s 2018 Murder

The hunt for the gunmen who killed 16-year-old Amaan Shakoor in 2018 is still on. Now, the lead detective is urging those close to the case to finally speak up and help bring justice.

Tragic Shooting Outside Walthamstow Leisure Centre

On the evening of April 2, 2018, Amaan was outside Walthamstow Leisure Centre when two males approached him. In a shocking attack, he was shot in the head.

Paramedics and police rushed him to hospital, but Amaan died the next day after spending a critical night fighting for his life.

Detective Chief Inspector Issues Stirring Appeal

Detective Chief Inspector Perry Benton, leading the investigation, said:

“Three years have passed since this horrific incident that took a young man from his family. They deserve justice and the chance to have some sort of closure. We will not rest until we identify those responsible and bring them before the courts.”

Officers believe the shooting wasn’t random. Tensions between rival groups in the local area are thought to be at the heart of the attack. Amaan was likely caught up in this dangerous feud despite only being on the edges of it.

Time To Break The Wall Of Silence

DCI Benton continued:

“There were other people present when Amaan was shot, and I’m sure even those not there know who did this. I understand some see speaking to the police as a betrayal of trust. But to friends of Amaan, staying silent is a far greater betrayal. It’s only by breaking the wall of silence that justice can be served.”

He called on witnesses or anyone with info—no matter how small—to come forward. DCI Benton promised support for those who do.
