Veteran East of England Ambulance Boss Barry England Dies After Catching COVID-19
The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) has heartbreakingly confirmed the death of Barry England, one of its longest-serving and most respected staff members, after he contracted COVID-19.
Beloved Operations Manager Succumbs to Virus
Barry England, a Leading Operations Manager based in Hemel Hempstead, was admitted to hospital last Sunday and sadly passed away yesterday.
“Barry was a hugely valued friend and colleague,” said an EEAST spokesperson. “We offer our sincere condolences to Barry’s family, friends, and colleagues during this very difficult time.”
The Trust is providing support to Barry’s family and will issue no further announcements at this stage.
Family Mourns ‘Sudden Loss’ of Dedicated Ambulance Hero
Barry’s family described their hearts as “broken” by the sudden loss. They highlighted his pride in serving the ambulance service for over 33 years.
They also expressed deep gratitude to the NHS staff who cared for Barry in hospital, as well as to his former colleagues for their continued support. The family requested privacy as they grieve.
Another Ambulance Worker and Police Detective Lost to COVID-19
Barry’s death follows the recent loss of a North West Ambulance Service paramedic, who died in hospital on Friday 17th April.
The same day, 53-year-old British Transport Police Detective Constable John Coker also succumbed to COVID-19.
Tragedy Strikes Again with Welsh Paramedic’s Suicide
Adding to the heartbreak, 23-year-old Charlotte Cope, a ‘much-loved’ and ‘highly respected’ paramedic from the Welsh Ambulance Service, took her own life shortly after completing her shifts on 13th April.
Charlotte was found dead at her home, leaving colleagues and the community devastated.
