Tragic Gosport Pedestrian Death After Hit at Crossing
Police rushed to Grange Road in Gosport at noon on 16 March after a serious collision at a pedestrian crossing. A white Toyota Aygo struck 74-year-old Derek Thompson as he walked his dog by the seafront.
Derek Thompson Dies After Battle with Injuries
Derek was taken to hospital with severe injuries but sadly passed away a week later on 23 March. His family are devastated and receiving support from specialist officers.
“Derek was a lively and energetic 74-year-old with a love of nature and the outdoors. He walked at least ten miles daily with his beloved dog, Meg,” his family said.
“A true gentleman and scholar, he never stopped reading or learning and was always kind and gracious. Derek’s amazing humour and constant smile touched everyone who knew him.”
“His sudden death has left us shattered. He was a true inspiration and a legend.”
Police Seek Female Witness in Pink or Purple
Mr Thompson’s dog was injured but has now returned home. Police continue to investigate and urgently want to speak to a woman in pink or purple who helped Derek after the crash.
