The community is mourning the loss of Jennifer Allen, 71, a well-known local farmer and countryside lover who died in a tragic collision on Sussex’s A281 Brighton Road, Woodmancote, on November 6.
Tributes Pour in for Countrywoman and Friend
Known to family and friends as Jen, she was a fixture on the family farm in Blackstone, Henfield, where she spent her life caring for animals and championing British farming. Her family remembered her as:
“A countrywoman, farmer, and good friend to her community. She was born, lived, and worked on the family farm in Blackstone, where she first developed her passion for the countryside and all its natural history.”
“Jen was incredibly knowledgeable and always had time to appreciate the life around her, photographing and cataloguing what she saw.”
“She cared deeply about animal welfare and British farm policies, keeping sharp on agricultural advances and government changes even in semi-retirement.”
“Jen could be found daily tending her animals, exploring nature on foot, or lending a hand to friends and family.”
“At home, she loved dabbling in electronics, building her own computer system and experimenting with digital photography, usually accompanied by rock legends like Bachman–Turner Overdrive, Led Zeppelin, or Status Quo.”
“She died returning home from one of her many acts of kindness. She will be missed every day by her family and many others in the village and beyond.”
