Tragic Stabbing Shakes Clapton Community

Jade Anthony Barnett, 38, was brutally stabbed to death in his wheelchair in Clapton on Wednesday afternoon. The shocking attack has left locals heartbroken, remembering Jade as a “cheerful and caring” man loved by all.

Police Called After Fight Turns Fatal

The Metropolitan Police rushed to Rushmore Road at 3:38pm following reports of a fight. Officers found Jade with a fatal stab wound. Despite paramedics’ best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A black and grey electric wheelchair was spotted behind police tape near a forensic tent on Overbury Street, close to a housing estate. The area stayed cordoned off late into the evening as police continued their investigation.

Family and Friends Pay Moving Tributes

Jade’s sister, Simone Barnett from Hackney, described him as “jolly, cheerful, caring” and “someone who laughed everything off.” She said,

“Everyone knew my brother—young, old, mothers, fathers. Everybody is family. He was just that character.”

An anonymous witness added, “He was always funny, making jokes, friendly with everybody, always had a smile on his face. There’s not a bad thing I could say about him.”

Another friend said Jade was a “young guy, good spirit, no enemies, no guns, no crime, no gangs.”

Two Men Arrested as Police Urge Public for Info

Two men, aged 28 and 21, have been arrested and remain in custody in east London following Jade’s tragic death.

Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, policing Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said,

“Our investigation is still in the early stages and my detectives are working hard to establish what happened this afternoon. We urge anyone with information to come forward.”

He thanked locals for their patience as streets remain cordoned off. Police expect a continued presence in Clapton and advise anyone with information to call 101 or message @MetCC on X, quoting CAD 4793/28AUG.
