18-Year-Old Arrested After High-Speed Chase in Bolton
An 18-year-old man was snared by police after a nail-biting high-speed pursuit through Bolton on Friday night (18 April). Greater Manchester Police’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit (TVIU) flagged down a suspected cloned car on Wigan Road, but the driver refused to stop. What followed was a chase that ended when the suspect tried to ditch the car and run on foot – but officers were on his tail.
Cash and Cloned Car Seized
The police quickly arrested the young man on suspicion of dangerous driving and money laundering. A search of the vehicle revealed a whopping £4,000 in cash, confiscated under the Proceeds of Crime Act. The car was also discovered to be unregistered and has been impounded.
Police Praise Specialist Unit
Inspector Shafiqur Malik from GMP’s Specialist Operations said:
“The arrest last night highlights the excellent work that goes on behind the scenes every day and night across the force.
It showed a dedicated response by officers to apprehend the suspect, and I hope this proves that we are successfully able to track, trace, and detain those who are blighting our local communities.”
Inspector Malik also emphasised the vital role the Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit plays in stamping out organised crime, vehicle offences, and threats to public safety across Greater Manchester.
Cracking Down on Cloned Cars
This bust is part of GMP’s wider crackdown on cloned vehicles, often tied to serious crime like drug trafficking and fraud. Police urge members of the public to stay vigilant.
