High-speed Hilux chase ends in crash and arrests in Nottinghamshire
The stolen Toyota Hilux sparked a tense police pursuit on the A6097 in Nottinghamshire yesterday evening. An unmarked police car spotted the erratic truck near Lowdham at around 6.15pm on 23 July 2022 and gave chase.
Dangerous driving sparks high-speed pursuit
The Hilux tore along the A612 nottingham/" title="Nottingham" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Nottingham Road towards Nottingham. The driver pulled reckless manoeuvres, forcing the pursuing officer to activate blue lights and sirens. Speeds hit up to 90mph as the suspect ran red lights and nearly crashed into another vehicle.
Crash and chaos as truck reverses into police car
About 10 minutes into the chase, the truck slowed but suddenly reversed at high speed into the unmarked police car, causing heavy damage. Backup units quickly took over the pursuit as the suspects headed into Farndon.
Suspects caught after fleeing and police helicopter hunt
After the chase ended, two men dashed from the Hilux but were swiftly caught thanks to a police helicopter. The men, aged 30 and 33, were arrested at the scene and face multiple charges, including dangerous driving, theft, assault on a police officer, and criminal damage to the police vehicle.
“It was fantastic teamwork by officers to stop the truck,” said Inspector Abigail Goucher. “This sends a clear warning — if you try to outrun us, it won’t be long before we catch you. Our officers are highly trained.”
Investigations are ongoing as police clamp down on dangerous drivers in the area.
