Two Men Held Over Gigantic £10 Million Illegal Dump in Oxfordshire
Colossal Waste Pile Outrages Locals
A massive fly-tipping scandal has rocked Oxfordshire after officials uncovered an enormous illegal dump near Kidlington. The landfill stretches an eye-watering 500ft (150 metres) and stacks up to 20ft (6 metres) high, packed with shredded household rubbish, plastics, tyres, and polystyrene.
Locals and environmental groups are stunned by the sheer scale of the 21,000-tonne rubbish mountain.
Two Arrested Across Hampshire and Slough
Police swooped on two suspects linked to the dumping this week. A 69-year-old man was arrested at his home in Andover, Hampshire. A second man, 54, was detained in Slough. Both face charges related to environmental offences and money laundering. They are now out on bail while investigations continue.
£9.6 Million Clean-Up Launched Amid Safety Fears
Located between the River Cherwell and the A34, the dump poses serious fire and safety hazards. The Environment Agency has launched an urgent clean-up believed to cost nearly £10 million. Officials warn the operation could take up to a year to complete.
“The site is believed to contain around 21,000 tonnes of waste – a mound up to 150 metres long and 6 metres high,” said Councillor Nathan Ley from Abingdon North. “The arrests relate to environmental and money-laundering offences.”
An Environment Agency spokesperson confirmed they will pursue full recovery of clean-up costs from those responsible if prosecutions succeed.
