Masked Thugs Raid 90-Year-Old’s Home in Shocking Derry Invasion

Detectives from Police Service Northern Ireland are hunting for answers after a terrifying home invasion in Clooney, Derry. Three masked men forced their way into a 90-year-old woman’s house in the early hours of Sunday, December 17.

Horrific Nighttime Raid

The gang struck at around 4am, smashing a rear door’s glass pane to gain entry. One intruder trapped the elderly woman in her bedroom while the other two ransacked the property. Shockingly, despite the chaos, nothing was stolen.

In a chilling twist, the criminals cut the house’s internal phone line before fleeing, leaving the terrified pensioner unable to call for help. The alarm wasn’t raised until 7am, deepening the distress.

Police Warn of Linked Break-Ins

“It’s particularly abhorrent that the actions of these criminals left an older person in such a vulnerable position, unable to seek help from her family,” said Detective Sergeant Chambers.

Officers suspect this burglary connects to three other attempted break-ins in the area overnight. The PSNI are appealing to anyone with information or CCTV footage to come forward. Witnesses should call 101 and quote reference number 401 of 17/12/23.

Community on Alert

Detective Sergeant Chambers urged locals to stay vigilant, especially around elderly neighbours:

“Everyone has the right to feel safe and protected in their own home. If you have any concerns about your security, please contact police and ask to speak to your local Crime Prevention Officer.”

Residents can report info online at www.psni.police.uk/makeareport or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

The investigation continues as the community pulls together to safeguard vulnerable locals from further attacks.
