Festival Revellers spark major rescue from Mud by Coastguard on the Isle of Wight

Three drunk festival revellers who had been attending the Isle of Wight festival have sparked a major mud rescue operation overnight on the Island. The trio entered part of the River Media in Newport and became entrapped in mud up to their waists. Emergency crews were scrambled just after 1am in the early hours of Friday morning. The three hour rescue operation of the revellers Involved a huge amount of resources including the Cowes RNLI lifeboat, Two of the Islands Coastguard search and rescue teams from from Ventnor and Bembridge and Paramedics from the Islands ambulance service and Police. Coastguard teams used an inflatable path way and basket stretcher to rescue two of the revellers, the third is understood to have self rescued and the men went to help the skipper of a broken boat that has brought them to the festival and raised the alarm near Island Harbour.
