Police and other emergency services arrived at the scene at 5.47 a.m.
A blue Land Rover Freelander and a blue Nissan Qashqai were involved in the collision.
Since the male has not yet been formally identified, police are not disclosing any additional information at this time, but specially trained officers are assisting his family.
The Land Rover Freelander’s driver, a 20-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The Land Rover Freelander is thought to have been travelling westbound at excessive speed and on the wrong side of the road at the time of the collision, where it collided with the Qashqai.
Officers investigating the incident are urging anyone who witnessed the collision on Junction Road to contact them.
Police are also asking anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to call 101 and reference 133388.
