HGV ploughs into back of Roadworks Lorry on the M1

Three lanes of the busy M1 near Luton remain closed following a serious collision in the early hours of Tuesday morning. An HGV ploughed into the rear of a stationary Road works vehicle that was being used to protect working whilst late night road maintenance was being carried out. Three lane of the northbound carriageway remains closed whilst a police investigation and a long and complex recovery operation takes place. Driver’s are being advised to seek an alternative route. No one is understood to have been seriously injured in the collision. The M1 currently has delays of at least 60 minutes from J10 (Luton) to J12 (Toddington) , covering several miles of the northbound carriageway. The delays are due to an infrastructure defect closing 3 of (4) lanes. Traffic Officers are working with engineers to reopen the lanes as soon as its safe. For traffic approaching the delays locally, you are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and you may wish to re-route or delay your journey.
