Police close major Southampton Road following serious Collision
Police have closed both lanes of the The Avenue in Southampton following a serious Collision between a pedestrian and a black CLK 220 Avantgrade Mercedes. The closure is between Winn and Westwood Road. The collision happened just before 11pm on Thursday evening. Both carriageway of the road are closed whilst police collision scene investigators carry out accident investigation work. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area. Armed response Police officers rushed to the scene and gave the man emergency first aid whilst waiting for paramedics. A man has been rushed to Southampton hospital with serious injuries. A Unilink bus was also trapped in the closure. A passenger who asked not to be named said that the man was attempting to try to cross the road when the black Mercedes sport hit the man who hit the front of the car and landed in the road. The driver was unhurt but is being questioned by Police it is unclear of she has been arrested. Local diversions have been set up. The road closure is also effecting local buses. The road has since reopened. Anyone with information or may have witnessed the collision is asked to Totton Roads Police on 101. Update: Police have since confirmed that the driver has been arrested in connection with the collision that took place at about 10.55pm last night involving Mercedes car and a pedestrian near the junction of The Avenue and Westwood Road. A South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman said two ambulance crews, a rapid response, air ambulance staff in a car and an ambulance officer attended the scene they treated two people at the scene.
