Firefighters Haul Giant Ladder 13 Miles to Raise Thousands for Charity
Firefighters Take on Gruelling 13-Mile March
Thirty firefighters turned heads in Portsmouth today, hauling a massive 10.5-metre ladder through the streets while decked out in full breathing apparatus. The tough crew trekked all the way from Horndean Fire Station to Gunwharf Quays, covering a gruelling 13 miles on foot.
Raising Funds for Firefighters Charity and Football For Cancer
The team wasn’t just out for a stroll – they were raising money for two worthy causes: The Firefighters Charity and Football For Cancer (FFC). With donation buckets in hand, the firefighters collected generous contributions from supporters along the route.
“It’s been great. People have turned out and given us a cheer and a wave,” said organiser and watch manager Craig Sadler. “The whole event has been great with lots of people showing their support.”
“Obviously we are looking to raise money for two good causes but it is also nice for people to see us doing things and being at the heart of the local community.”
Fire Engines and Fire Safety Fun
Along the way, fire engines gave the public a chance to snap photos behind the wheel and receive vital fire safety tips. The community spirit was high – and the funds raised even higher.
Almost £5,000 Raised with Barclays Support
The firefighters and their supporters managed to raise an impressive £2,394. Barclays doubled the total with a generous match, pushing the grand total to a smashing £4,788.
The funds will be split between The Firefighters Charity and Football For Cancer, making every step of their 13-mile trek count.
