Dramatic Rescue as Man Plunges into Langstone Harbour

A man was in trouble in the water near Farlington Marshes when lifesavers swooped in. The drama unfolded around one mile offshore in Langstone Harbour after his small sailing dinghy got into difficulty.

Rescue Helicopter and Lifeboat Rush to Scene

A dramatic video captures the rescue helicopter and lifeboat crew racing to the scene following a 999 call at 7.35pm. The Coastguard was alerted to the dinghy in trouble, prompting a rapid volunteer response from portsmouth/" title="Portsmouth" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Portsmouth RNLI.

“While on approach, we were told the dinghy was struggling and the man ended up in the water,” said a Portsmouth RNLI spokesman.

Man Wades to Safety Despite Low Tide Challenges

Rescuers struggled to reach the man due to low tide, but he managed to wade through the water to safety. Crews onshore met him alongside the South Central Ambulance Service, who checked his condition.

The RNLI crew later retrieved the unmanned dinghy, which had floated away.

“Always check the weather conditions before heading out, especially at sea,” the RNLI spokesman warned. “If you get into trouble, call for help immediately. You can find safety tips and advice for watersports on the RNLI website.”
