Fire Breaks Out in East London Flat: Woman Rescued, Dozens Evacuated
Blaze Ravages Flat, Woman Hospitalised
Half of a two-room flat on the second floor went up in flames yesterday afternoon. Firefighters heroically rescued a woman trapped inside via an internal stairwell. She was rushed to hospital for treatment.
15 Residents Evacuated to Safety
Crews promptly evacuated around 15 people from the first and second floors, guiding them to safety before the fire spread further.
Cause Linked to Careless Smoking
Officials believe the blaze started accidentally due to unsafe disposal of smoking materials. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson warned: “Giving up smoking can not only prevent fires, but the health benefits are countless. We’d rather you didn’t smoke at all, but if you are a smoker, it’s absolutely vital you ensure your cigarette is completely out when you’ve finished smoking it.
“If you don’t, you risk causing a fire which could not only destroy properties but also cost you your life.”
Rapid Response Controls Fire Within 90 Minutes
The London Fire Brigade was called at 4.10pm, with crews from Barking, Ilford, and East Ham fire stations on scene. The fire was under control by 5.33pm, preventing further damage.
