Illegal Railway Arch Rave Shut Down After Neighbours' Tip-Off
Police swooped on an illegal rave inside a derelict railway arch on Tidworth Road, E3, just after 1.30am on Saturday, 27 February. Neighbours had called in dozens of times, alarmed by the chaos.
From Makeshift Bar to Massive Crowd
A gang of around 10 partygoers had smashed their way in and constructed a makeshift bar using wooden crates. Word spread fast—soon, about 100 revellers had descended on the spot for the unofficial bash.
Crowd Flee Into Graveyard, Met Steps In
When officers arrived, many fled, leaping over high walls into a nearby graveyard—creating a dangerous scene. The Met’s Territorial Support Group was called in to control the situation and enforce the law.
Twenty partygoers were caught and handed £800 fixed penalty notices for breaking lockdown rules.
Chief Inspector Slams Partygoers
“It is mad that people are still prepared to break the rules, despite the extreme loss of a life as a result of this virus. It is shameful some people are selfishly putting others at risk,” said Chief Inspector Pete Shaw.
“With the roadmap announcement last week, we are all excited at the prospect of returning to normal in June. But events like this threaten to derail that progress by providing a breeding ground for the virus. We’ll keep shutting these down and issuing fines.”
