Foo Fighters’ Iconic White Falcon Guitar Up for Auction
Dave Grohl’s legendary Gretsch White Falcon guitar, famously used in the 1997 video for Monkey Wrench, is heading for auction. Originally owned by Foo Fighters’ rhythm guitarist Pat Smear, this axe is a true rock relic.
A Rock Star’s Treasure with Star Power
The guitar featured heavily on Foo Fighters’ second album, The Colour And The Shape, released the same year as the Monkey Wrench video. It’s expected to fetch a whopping £15,000 to £30,000 when it goes under the hammer on September 7 at Wiltshire’s Gardiner Houlgate auction house.
Adding to its rock ‘n’ roll mystique, the guitar comes with a Polaroid snapped by Smear of actress Drew Barrymore holding the iconic instrument.
Rare Chance for Fans and Collectors
“This is a very exciting guitar because it’s one of the few owned by Foo Fighters, arguably the biggest current rock band on the planet, to ever come to public auction,” said auctioneer Luke Hobbs. “I expect interest from all over the world.”
The guitar’s connection to the breakthrough single Monkey Wrench—the first Foo Fighters track to feature the late drummer Taylor Hawkins—makes it an irresistible piece for collectors and fans alike.
From Bow Wow Wow Inspiration to Rock History
Pat Smear, who also toured with Nirvana, bought the White Falcon in 1996 after admiring the model played by British new wave band Bow Wow Wow. Now, a private collector is ready to part with this piece of music history.
