Tragic Crash on A5 Near Tamworth: Man Dies, Others Injured
West Midlands Ambulance Service scrambled to a serious collision on the westbound A5 near Tamworth at 8.54am on Tuesday. A stationary car collided with a van, sparking multiple emergency calls. Three ambulances, three paramedic officers, the Midlands Air Ambulance, and The Air Ambulance Service’s critical care team rushed to the scene.
Heroic Rescue Attempts End in Tragedy
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service revealed the grim scene: “The first crew found the male driver in a critical state, already being tended to by a private ambulance team. Both crews sprang into action, delivering life-saving basic support before more colleagues arrived.”
Despite intense efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Passengers Rescued and Treated
- The female passenger in the car was trapped and needed the fire service to free her.
- She suffered injuries that are not life-threatening and was treated on site before being taken to Heartlands Hospital.
- The van’s driver and two teenage passengers escaped with minor injuries and were sent to Good Hope Hospital for checks.
