Kent Council Launches Cheap Broadband Deals to Beat Sky-High Prices
Kent County Council (KCC) is cracking down on crippling broadband costs by promoting social tariffs—discounted internet packages for struggling families. With bills soaring, these deals could save eligible households up to £150 a year.
Why Cheap Broadband Matters Now More Than Ever
The pandemic made clear: internet access isn’t a luxury, it’s a lifeline. From working at home and schooling kids online to staying in touch with loved ones, digital connections have become essential. Yet, a shocking 1.2% of those who qualify for discounted broadband or mobile tariffs are actually signed up.
KCC’s Digital Kent Project Aims to Close the Gap
Council leader Roger Gough said: “No one should be left behind in today’s digital age. We want to raise awareness of affordable options for families who currently can’t get online.” KCC’s Digital Kent scheme, launched in 2021, is tackling digital exclusion head-on with more than £5 million pumped into projects supporting thousands of Kent residents.
