Fatal Crash on A354 Near Blandford: Police Seek Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Tragedy struck on the A354 near Thornicombe, south of Blandford, when two cars collided on Tuesday, 18 August 2020. Dorset Police are urgently appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
Woman in 50s Dies at Scene
The crash involved a purple Peugeot 107 and a silver Ford Ka. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after the collision was reported at 4.30pm. Sadly, the driver of the Peugeot – a woman in her 50s from Wareham – was pronounced dead on the spot. Her family has been informed.
Serious Injuries to Elderly Woman
The Ford Ka’s driver, an elderly local woman, suffered serious injuries. She was airlifted to southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton General Hospital and remains in critical condition. Her family has also been notified.
Police Call for Witnesses and Dashcam Videos
Road closures were enforced to aid emergency services and allow a thorough investigation. Sergeant Sarah Jones of the traffic unit said:
“Our thoughts are with the families of those involved at this difficult time. We are carrying out a full investigation to establish the circumstances of this collision. I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident and has not spoken to police to please contact us.”
She added:
“If you were travelling in the area and have dashcam footage, please check your recordings for anything relevant.”
The public’s patience during the road closures was also appreciated by officers.
