Smoke Sparks Seventh Floor Flat Blaze – No Injuries

A blaze tore through a seventh-floor flat and its balcony in a 16-story block yesterday, sending 80 residents fleeing before firefighters arrived. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Fire Caused by Careless Cigarette Disposal

The London Fire Brigade’s investigators say the fire was accidental, sparked by improperly discarded smoking materials. A Brigade spokesperson warned:

“We’d prefer you didn’t smoke at all, but if you must, make sure your cigarette is completely out after you’ve finished smoking it. If you don’t, you risk starting a fire that could destroy your home – or even take your life.” “When smoking on your balcony, never throw your cigarette over the railing. It could reflect light onto items below, spreading the fire.”

Swift Brigade Response Quells Flames

At 4.31pm, five fire engines and 35 firefighters from Heston, Southall, Feltham, Hayes, and Heathrow rushed to the scene. They tackled the blaze hard and fast, putting it out by 5.59pm after taking 28 emergency calls.

Top Safety Tips for Smokers

Stay safe and don’t let a careless cigarette turn your life to ash.
