Unlicensed rave shut down after 150 partygoers cram into filthy, unsafe venue despite COVID rules

Officers raid illegal music event in East London

Police stormed a dangerous unlicensed music event last Sunday morning, busting a 30-year-old organiser for flaunting coronavirus regulations. Around 9.30am on October 4, Met officers responded to complaints of anti-social behaviour and violence on Wythes Road, E16.

Hazardous venue packed to the rafters

Upon arrival, officers were blasted with loud music pouring from a derelict public hall. Over 150 revellers were squashed inside a filthy, crumbling building with no running water or proper sanitation. A massive DJ set blasted in one corner while guests ignored social distancing and face mask rules.

Bodycam footage reveals stunned officers faced with a health nightmare posing grave COVID-19 risks.

Event organiser hit with £10,000 fine

Police swiftly dispersed the crowd and identified the main culprit. The event organiser now faces a fixed penalty notice up to £10,000.

Sergeant Simon Biggs said: “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The organiser showed blatant disregard for the safety of everyone there. This virus has claimed thousands of lives, and events like this risk spreading it even more.”

“Conditions were appalling. No running water, poor sanitation, zero social distancing, and almost no one wearing masks. On top of that, the building was falling apart — water leaking from the ceiling and serious hazards everywhere.”

“We secured the building after the raid to stop anyone else getting in.”
