Anthony Joshua Survives Deadly Nigerian Car Crash — Two Dead

Shock sent ripples through the boxing world as former heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua was caught up in a fatal crash on Nigeria’s notorious Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The horror smash claimed two lives.

Minor Injuries for Joshua After Harrowing Collision

The 36-year-old boxer was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that smashed into a stationary truck just after 11am GMT in Makun, local reports confirm. Four people were inside the vehicle, with Joshua sitting right behind the driver.

Eyewitnesses say the crash involved a convoy: a Lexus SUV followed closely by a Pajero SUV carrying Joshua’s security team.

“It was a two-vehicle convoy: a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV. Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another person beside him. Another passenger sat beside the driver, making four inside the Lexus that crashed. His security detail followed behind,” a witness told Punch newspaper.

Amazing but true — Joshua walked away with only minor injuries. Tragedy struck the other passengers, however, as two people inside the Lexus died at the scene. Bystanders and Federal Road Safety officials rushed to help. Joshua was later seen calmly talking to emergency personnel from the front seat of an ambulance.

Promoter Eddie Hearn Reacts: ‘Thankfully He Appears OK’

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn, currently on holiday, reacted quickly to the news:

“I awoke to this incident and we are trying to contact Anthony. We don’t want to speculate on his condition yet, but from the images I’ve seen, thankfully he appears OK. We’re awaiting more details and will update as soon as possible.”

The boxing community now holds its breath, hoping for a swift recovery for the former heavyweight king and answers about the deadly crash on Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
