Kent Police Response Officers Honoured in National Week of Action
Kent Police’s frontline response officers are getting the recognition they deserve in a nationwide salute to their bravery and dedication.
What is National Response Policing Week?
From June 13, 2022, police forces across the UK launched the second annual National Response Policing ‘Week of Action’. The goal? To shine a spotlight on officers who are often the first to arrive at serious crime scenes, traffic crashes, and emergencies where public help is urgent.
Kent’s top brass haven’t just sat back. Chief officers hit the streets alongside uniformed officers, and a jam-packed schedule of wellbeing sessions has been rolled out. These cover vital subjects like mental health, injury reduction, sleep, nutrition, and exercise.
Kent Police’s Growing Force and Daily Heroics
Kent Police is set to have a record-breaking 4,145 officers by March 2023 — the highest ever in the force’s history. A big chunk of these heroes are response officers, supported by the Special Constabulary and specialist teams, who tackle multiple daily incidents to help the public in crisis.
“Responding to people in danger and distress is a fundamental responsibility of policing,” said Assistant Chief Constable Peter Ayling. “Our officers display exceptional acts of professionalism and bravery around the clock, often as the last line of support for people in crisis.”
Why This Week Matters
Assistant Chief Constable Ayling added: “Policing is tough. Our officers face harrowing situations daily, many etched in memory forever. That’s why recognising their crucial work, reminding them of support resources, and showing our gratitude is essential.”
“This week offers a prime chance for all in law enforcement – and beyond – to say thanks to our response officers. We simply couldn’t do it without them.”
