Man Arrested Over Pro-Hamas Posts in London

The Met Police’s Counter Terrorism Command has arrested a 47-year-old man in southwest London. The man is suspected of sharing online posts linked to the banned terrorist group Hamas. The arrest follows a tip-off from the public about content supporting the organisation.

Quick Action After Online Terrorism Warning

On April 29, police were alerted to social media posts promoting Hamas, which is classified as a terrorist organisation in the UK. The case was swiftly passed to the Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit, who escalated it to the Met’s specialist detectives.

Yesterday, May 14, officers swooped on a property in southwest London linked to the investigation. The man was arrested under Section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000 for endorsing a terrorist organisation.

Investigation Ongoing as Man Released on Bail

The suspect has since been bailed pending a court appearance set for early August. Police say the probe remains active as they continue to monitor extremist activity online.

Commander Dominic Murphy, Head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “Since the tragic events in Israel last October and the ongoing conflict, we’ve seen a rise in extremist material reported by vigilant citizens. Each referral is carefully assessed. When terrorism offences are suspected in the UK, we act swiftly to investigate, identify, and arrest those involved, ensuring justice is served.”
