Essex Roads Plagued by 57 Crashes in Just One Week – One Dead!
Weekend Havoc on Major Essex Roads
Essex Police’s Head of Roads Policing, Adam Pipe, has revealed a shocking surge in collisions. Over the past seven days, 57 crashes rocked the county, leaving many injured and tragically claiming one life. Nearly half of these accidents struck over the weekend, causing chaos on two key Essex routes.
Drivers Urged to Stay Safe Amid Busier Roads
With traffic expected to ramp up in the coming weeks, Pipe warns drivers to plan ahead. “If you haven’t driven far in a year, you may feel nervous on the road,” he said. “Give yourself extra time, be considerate, and don’t take risks.”
He advises motorists to:
- Check their vehicle condition – oil, fuel, and tyres—especially if under-used.
- Take necessary medications on long trips.
- Carry food and water in case of delays.
- Stay alert—check mirrors, keep distance, and obey speed limits.
- Never get distracted by mobile phones behind the wheel.
Speeding: Essex’s Road Killer
“Speeding is a deadly threat,” Pipe stressed. “Drive carefully and you could prevent a tragedy.”
Vision Zero: Essex Vows to Eradicate Road Deaths
Nicola Foster, Chairman of the Safer Essex Roads Partnership, expressed heartbreak over the latest fatalities. “Road deaths are totally unacceptable and preventable,” she said. “We must unite to create a ‘safe system’ allowing for human error with safer speeds, roads, vehicles, and post-collision responses.”
“Zero is the only acceptable number of deaths and serious injuries in Essex.”
Help Catch Dangerous Drivers
