Met Police Ready to Crack Down on Clap for Carers Crowds
The Met Police are gearing up for tonight’s Clap for Carers event with officers out in force to enforce social distancing rules. They’ll be on hand to engage with the public, explain the guidelines, and encourage everyone to keep safe.
Stick to the Rules or Be Sent Home
Anyone not complying with the Government’s emergency lockdown rules will be asked to head straight home. The message is clear: only leave your house for essential reasons outlined by the government.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Issues Warning
“Like millions across the UK, thousands of Met officers and staff join in Clap for Carers every week,” said Deputy Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist. Tonight won’t be any different as they pause to salute the NHS.
“We remind officers to keep social distance where possible, but they also need the public’s support. We understand landmarks like Westminster Bridge attract applause crowds, but safety comes first.”
“Officers will be there to explain rules and encourage distance. Those not out for valid reasons will be asked to leave. Enforcement remains a last resort,” he added.
Stay Safe and Respect Social Distancing
The Met’s message is loud and clear: cheer on carers, but keep your distance. Police want to avoid crackdowns, but won’t hesitate if rules are broken. Stay home, stay safe, and clap responsibly.
