Hospitality Kingpin Austin Whelan Cracks 11 with New £750K Beckenham Pub
Austin Whelan, the South East’s family-run pub boss, is smashing it again. His AK Whelan Management empire just landed its 11th venue — a freehold gem on Beckenham High Street. Once The Manor House and before that a Slug and Lettuce, this site has had a jaw-dropping £750,000 makeover and reopens as Erin’s, named after Whelan’s own daughter.
Big Bets on Freeholds and Fresh Ventures
Whelan’s not stopping here. He’s aiming for 15 pubs in the next 12 to 18 months, hunting down more freeholds to boost business value. “Being a multiple operator means taking smart risks,” he says, “You can’t just slap on a fresh coat anymore. You’ve got to invest proper cash in the building and your team.”
Erin’s Joins The Elm Tree to Raise the Bar in Beckenham
Erin’s is Whelan’s second pub in Beckenham, joining The Elm Tree in Elms End. With a focus on top-notch food, drinks, and entertainment, it’s clear Whelan’s pubs aren’t just watering holes — they’re destinations. As AK Whelan Management expands, so does Whelan’s pledge to deliver cracking customer experiences.
