Water Main Burst Floods Dartford Street – Residents Face Two-Week Repair Wait

Muddy water gushed through doors and flooded streets after a major water main burst in Dartford. The damaged pipe supplies thousands of homes, leaving many residents without water and streets turned into rushing torrents of brown sludge.

Engineers Cut Supply, Repairs Could Take Fortnight

Thames Water shut off the flow at 9.30pm on Sunday. They warned it could take up to two weeks to fix the badly damaged main and restore normal service.

“Thank you for informing us about low water pressure and no water in DA1, DA2, and DA9,” Thames Water said. “Our specialist engineers have now arrived and are working hard to restore your water supply as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience and will update you as soon as we have news.”

Residents Scramble as Floodwaters Pour From the Road

Water and mud burst out of two huge holes in the street, forcing residents to rush outside and move their cars to avoid damage. The chaos could not be more stark compared to the drought-hit South East, where hosepipe bans are about to kick in.

Heatwave and Drought Compound Water Woes

  • While Dartford battles floods, much of London and the South East face severe water shortages.
  • Kent and Sussex are bracing for a hosepipe ban starting August 12, prohibiting garden watering, car washing, and filling pools.
  • July was the driest on record in the UK since 1935, with temperatures expected to soar to 29°C next week.

The bizarre clash of flood and drought highlights the UK’s growing water crisis, as residents face both too much and too little at the same time.
