Massive Blaze Engulfs Whitstable Harbour Fish Market Warehouse
Firefighters battle a huge fire tearing through a commercial building on the edge of Whitstable Harbour. Flames are pouring from a large warehouse next to the town’s famous fish market.
Ten Fire Engines Scramble to Scene
Kent Fire and Rescue Service rushed ten fire engines and a height vehicle to the blaze after being called just after 1.30pm on Thursday. The warehouse is used for cooking fish and the fire quickly grew out of control.
A major road closure is now in place to help firefighters. A high volume pump is also deployed to douse the relentless flames.
Firefighters Making Steady Progress Amid Thick Smoke
“Kent Fire and Rescue Service remains at the scene of a fire at a commercial premises in Whitstable Harbour. Ten fire engines and a height vehicle are in attendance, and crews are making steady progress, using hose reel jets and compressed air foam to tackle the fire,” a spokesperson said.
“Anyone living or working nearby is advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke, and avoid the area where possible while emergency services deal with the incident.”
Residents and workers are urged to share safety messages with those without internet access as the emergency unfolds.
