Massive Blaze Destroys Wickford Home in Early Morning Inferno
Firefighters from Essex were scrambled to a huge blaze at a detached Wickford house just after midnight.
Fire Rips Through Ground Floor, Staircase Fails
Crews found the two-storey, 10-square-metre property full of thick smoke. The entire ground floor was engulfed in flames. An internal staircase collapsed, trapping firefighters from reaching the first floor.
Aerial Ladders Fight Back to Control Flames
Using an aerial ladder platform, firefighters doused the fire from above. By 2:51am, the whole building was ablaze, but by 3:25am, the Incident Commander confirmed “good progress” in taming the flames.
Only Hotspot Patrol Left by Dawn
By 7am, just one crew stayed behind to soak hotspots and prevent a flare-up. The house has been completely destroyed.
An investigation into the cause is set to begin soon.
