A huge fire has ripped through a warehouse near Sheffield’s busy Meadowhall shopping centre, lighting up the sky with flames and explosions. Firefighters scrambled to tackle the blaze as thick black smoke poured into the air.

Chaos on Meadowhall Road

The emergency call came in around 5.45pm. Fire crews responded fast with 10 engines and two turntable ladders, battling the roaring inferno. Locals have been told to keep windows and doors shut amid the choking smoke.

Meadowhall Road is closed between Meadowhall Interchange and Amos Road. Authorities are urging everyone to steer clear while emergency teams work.

A spokesperson warned: “The fire is causing a large plume of smoke in the area. Please stay away from the area whilst we carry out our work.”

Transport Nightmare for Sheffield

The blaze has triggered chaos across local transport links. Southbound trains from Sheffield are blocked, with National Rail warning of delays and cancellations on routes to Wakefield, Doncaster, Barnsley, and Sheffield.

Bus services along Meadowhall Road have been halted, leaving commuters and shoppers facing major disruption.

Worries at Meadowhall Shopping Centre

Shoppers at Meadowhall noticed smoke earlier, sparking fears the fire had spread to the popular mall. But a security guard reassured visitors the blaze is confined to the nearby industrial estate.

Meadowhall, Yorkshire’s largest shopping centre and the UK’s 12th biggest, draws over 30 million visitors annually. Just three miles from Sheffield city centre, the sprawling complex hosts more than 280 stores.

Since opening in 1990 and inspired by a Canadian shopping centre, Meadowhall has remained a retail powerhouse — but today’s fiery drama has cast a serious shadow.
