Train Tragedy Shuts Brighton Mainline Near Haywards Heath
Emergency services rushed to the scene just south of Haywards Heath station this afternoon after a person was struck by a train.

The body was found on the tracks just before 3pm on Saturday. The train involved was on the London Victoria to Brighton route.
Passengers remain on board the train, with water sent to them and replacement buses arranged.
Services Suspended, Investigation Underway
- Southern Rail has suspended all services between London Victoria and Brighton.
- British Transport Police (BTP), paramedics, and specialist rail crews are at the scene.
- BTP stated: “Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are investigating how they came to be on the tracks.”
- No details on the victim’s name, gender, or age have been released.
Network Rail confirmed the main Brighton-to-London line remains closed as crews work alongside emergency services.
“It is with regret we report that someone was hit by a train,” Network Rail said. “Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and staff affected by this incident.”

Services in Surrey and Sussex heading into London are severely disrupted. Various transport operators are accepting tickets, and bus replacements are in operation.
West Sussex Fire Service has been called to assist with cleaning platform 2 after the incident.
