The iconic Victoria Fountain, also known as the Dolphin Fountain, has officially started its long-awaited restoration. This beloved landmark was carefully removed by contractors to undergo crucial repairs and bring it back to its former glory.
Historic Beauty Towering Over the City
Standing an impressive 32 feet tall, the Victoria Fountain boasts a large cast-iron pool ringed with detailed egg-and-dart mouldings. It has been a favourite spot for locals and tourists, a key feature in the city’s landscape for decades.
Safety Concerns Spark Urgent Repairs
Back in January 2022, inspectors found serious structural problems. The fountain was temporarily secured and switched off to prevent any accidents. Officials decided the only way forward was to remove it entirely for a full, extensive rehabilitation to secure its future.
Work is now underway to restore this historic gem and ensure it shines for generations to come.
