Bristow Helicopters Secures UK Search and Rescue Contract Extension
Bristow Helicopters Limited has won a contract extension to keep flying search and rescue (SAR) missions for HM Coastguard. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) confirmed Bristow will continue as a vital player in the UK’s SAR operations.
Contract to Run Until End of 2026
Bristow originally landed the commercial SAR contract in March 2013. The new extension runs until 31 December 2026, buying time for the upcoming UKSAR2G procurement programme to get underway.
Bristow Boss Praises Team’s ‘Unquestionable Pride’
“Our specialist teams have worked tirelessly, diligently and with unquestionable pride to ensure the transition from a military and coastguard operation to a fully commercialised SAR helicopter service,” said Alan Corbett, Bristow Helicopters Chief Executive and Senior VP for Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia and SAR.
“We’ve committed to delivering a service that matches or beats what came before. A report by QinetiQ, commissioned by the MCA, backs up our success and goal achievements,” Corbett added.
Looking Ahead: New Tech and Fleet Upgrades
Corbett said the contract extension lets Bristow introduce new capabilities to their helicopter fleet cost-effectively. It also gives them a chance to test new technologies for future SAR contracts.
Bristow currently employs around 360 people operating from 10 strategically placed UK bases, ready to respond to all SAR emergencies nationwide.
